Student-athletes did themselves proud
by Mike McPartlin, Headmaster, Bridgedale Academy
On the evening of Thursday, March 9th, Bridgedale Academy hosted its inaugural Bridgedale Showcase. The brainchild of the Bridgedale Parents Association, this event featured:
1) on-ice sessions for the boys to show their skills;
2) numerous coaches from local high schools and hockey clubs; and
3) a warm, collegial atmosphere conducive to making connections.
Our 5th and 6th graders took the ice at 6:00pm and went through a series of drills before some full-ice scrimmaging and finally a cross-ice small area game.
The 7th and 8th graders took the ice next, going through their own sequence of drills and tactical situations before doing their own 4-on-4 and 3-on-3 scrimmaging.
Coaches and parents filled the stands at 7B's NHL side to watch as Headmaster Mike McPartlin put the boys through their paces.
Afterwards, the boys headed upstairs to the restaurant area, which had been cordoned off for the event, for pasta, pizza and salads catered by Whiskey Hill Restaurant.
Representatives from the Huskies Hockey Club, St. Rita HS, Providence Catholic HS, Marmion Academy, Fenwick HS and Culver Military Academy had all set up promotional tables and were able to speak with Bridgedale students and parents about their programs.
"This was a wonderful event and our student-athletes handled themselves extremely well," said Bridgedale Headmaster Mike McPartlin. "They truly showcased not only their abilities as hockey players on the ice, but also their maturity and class as they interacted with adult representatives from high schools and local organizations."
"They presented themselves as respectful young men," added McPartlin. "The Bridgedale teachers, coaches and I are all very proud of them."
Huge thanks to the Bridgedale Academy Parents Association and all the high schools and hockey organizations in attendance for making our inaugural Bridgedale Academy Showcase such a success.
