Bridgedale Grad Dashel Oliver Commits to Nebraska Omaha

    On a Hockey Scholarship

by Mike McPartlin, Headmaster, Bridgedale Academy

We are proud to congratulate Bridgedale Academy grad Dashel Oliver on his commitment to play his Division 1 NCAA hockey at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.

This season Dashel is splitting his time between the North Jersey Avalanche U16s and the Lincoln Stars who selected Dashel in the 2nd round of the 2021 USHL draft, the league's 19th overall pick.

Dashel grew up in Indiana, playing his youth hockey in Bloomington before joining the Chicago Mission where he played 3 seasons. He also represented the USA in the prestigious Five Nations Cup in Switzerland last August, serving as team Captain in 2 of the games.

A fast, right-handed shooting forward, Dashel is the 23rd Bridgedale Academy grad to earn his D1 scholarship.

“Dashel was a big part of our Mission 05 team for many years,” said Yanic Perreault, Dashel's coach at the Mission. "He's a great skater with a really good motor."

"He always puts in the efforts when he comes to the rink," added Perreault. "He commits himself to be better every day."

Bridgedale Grad Mikey DeAngelo Commits to Arizona State

    On a Hockey Scholarship

by Mike McPartlin, Headmaster, Bridgedale Academy

We are proud to congratulate Bridgedale Academy grad Mikey DeAngelo on his verbal commitment to play his Division 1 NCAA hockey at Arizona State University. This season Mikey (still only 16 years old at this writing) is playing for the Dubuque Fighting Saints in the USHL.

Last season Mikey started with the Chicago Mission U16 team before being called up to USA Hockey's NTDP. He also represented the USA in the prestigious Hlinka Gretzky Cup in Czech and Slovakia last August, where his 7 points in 4 games led the team.

A skilled, left-handed shooting forward, Mikey becomes the 22nd Bridgedale Academy grad to have earned his D1 scholarship.

(Click to see all Bridgedale's college commitments.)

“Mikey's speed and skills at speed are both excellent,” said Gino Cavallini, Mikey's coach the last two seasons at the Mission, "and he plays a complete 200 foot game. Last season he really came into his own. It was a joy watching him take his game to the next level."

"Mikey respects what it takes to become a great player," added Cavallini. "He's super coachable and respects the process. To me he's like a combination of the skill of (Bridgedale grad) Matty de St. Phalle and the all-around game of Owen Lindmark."

That's high praise from Coach Cavallini as both Lindmark and de St. Phalle now star for the University of Wisconsin.

Bridgedale Grad Kaden Varga Begins his Professional Career

    Playing for MAC Budapest

by Mike McPartlin, Headmaster, Bridgedale Academy

We are proud to congratulate Bridgedale Academy grad Kaden Varga on beginning his professional hockey career with MAC Budapest in the Hungarian Erste Liga.

Kaden, an offensive defenseman whose grandfather is former long-time Chicago Blackhawks equipment manager Lou Varga, has taken an unusual path to get where he is now.

After a fine youth career in Illinois, Kaden played prep hockey in Connecticut before a stint in the NAHL with the Jamestown (NY) Rebels that got cut short by the COVID shortened season.

He spent a season in Florida with the Everblades in the USPHL Premier league. This was a step down from the NAHL but it proved to be the perfect opportunity for him, not only because hockey was still being played in Florida, but also because he received plenty of playing time.

That's when his opportunity to play professionally in Europe came about.

We are proud to congratulate Bridgedale Academy grad Zack Sharp on his verbal commitment to play his Division 1 NCAA hockey at Western Michigan University.

This season Zack competes for the Chicago Mission U16 team. He is also likely to see time in the USHL this season, having been selected by the Souix Falls Stampede in the second round, the 17th pick overall. A talented offensive-minded defenseman, Zack becomes the 21st Bridgedale grad to have earned his D1 scholarship.

(Click to see all Bridgedale's college commitments.)

Zack attended Bridgedale Academy for two years, making huge strides and developing not only athletically and as a hockey player, but also as a student during his time at Bridgedale.

"Zack has been a big part of our Mission team over the last few years," says Yanic Perreault, Zack's coach the last two seasons at the Chicago Mission. "He has great offensive instincts, tremendous speed and a really good shot."

    Behrens and Lopina NHL Drafted

by Mike McPartlin, Headmaster, Bridgedale Academy

    Seven Bridgedale Grads and Counting

Bridgedale Academy grads Sean Behrens and Josh Lopina were recently selected in the 2021 National Hockey League Draft. This makes four years of Bridgedale grads (00s, 01s, 02s and 03s) to have been drafted over the last four NHL drafts, bringing the Bridgedale total to seven.

Sean was selected in the Second Round (#61 Overall) by the Colorado Avalanche, and Josh in the Fourth Round (#98 Overall) by the Anaheim Ducks.

Sean spent the last two seasons with USA Hockey's National Team Development Program and will suit up for the University of Denver in the fall.

Josh had a season for the ages last season as a freshman at UMass. First he captured the Hockey East Rookie of the Year honors and then capped things off with UMass's first-ever Division 1 NCAA National Championship.

One of the Best Decisions We Ever Made

By Dan Murashige, Bridgedale Academy Dad

Our son Joey is now in his second year at Bridgedale Academy. My wife and I believe our decision to enroll him has been one of the best decisions we ever made.

There are many reasons we believe this but I'll discuss just a few.

    * Bridgedale's Response to COVID last spring

For one, when last year's shelter-in-place COVID lockdown happened, most schools, and therefore most parents, were woefully unprepared. Like everyone else, we were in a state of shock. Yet the Bridgedale team confronted the challenge aggressively with zero hesitation, transitioning overnight into full-time, 5-days-a-week Zoom classes.

And as a result Joey and his Bridgedale classmates didn't miss a beat. They stayed totally on track academically all the way through the end of the 2019-20 school year. It was truly amazing.

    Schedule a Bridgedale Shadow Day

And to my knowledge, it was unmatched by any other schools, public or private, in Illinois.

    * In-Person for the 2020-21 School Year

We are now ten weeks into the school year and Bridgedale is teaching in-person, with carefully-instituted, intelligent, comprehensive COVID safety protocols.

The fact is that the boys at Bridgedale Academy love going to school.

    * Great Teaching Staff and Small Class Sizes

The Bridgedale faculty is truly professional and the small class sizes enable them to address and understand each student's personalities and needs.

As a parent you get feedback and insights on your son you would not normally receive.

    * Classical Curriculum combined with Great Athletic Training

The experience and leadership of (Bridgedale Headmaster) Mike McPartlin and (Bridgedale Academic Dean) Christina Di Pauli give my wife and me complete confidence in the excellence of Joey's academic and athletic education.

Bridgedale's classical curriculum, with such an excellent teaching staff, combined with the athletic training from such outstanding coaches, make it a fantastic school and a perfect fit for our son Joey.

In my opinion it is a rare opportunity for young student hockey players.

Dan's son Joey, an 8th grader at Bridgedale Academy, is a skilled, smooth-skating defenseman who plays with the Sabres organization.

At Bridgedale we are committed to the development of our young student-athletes. In this time of challenge and uncertainty due to COVID-19, we are proud to be offering our academics and on-ice and off-ice athletic instruction in person. We continue to help our student-athletes develop their physical and mental skills so they can perform at their best when it matters most, no matter the arena of life that challenges them.

2019-20: A School Year for the Ages

Our Talented, Caring Teachers Crushed it!

By: Mike McPartlin, Headmaster, Bridgedale Academy

Parents ecstatic with Bridgedale's distance learning.

The 2019-20 school year at Bridgedale Academy was truly one for the ages.

When it became clear in early March that the COVID-19 pandemic was about to have a profound impact on how we do things at Bridgedale Academy, we began making our preparations.

We pride ourselves on the "dynamic engagement" of our in-person classroom instruction. And with our boys-only environment, and small class-sizes, we especially take pride in how well ALL our boys do academically, and how virtually all of them come to LOVE LEARNING.

Click here to read Testimonials from Bridgedale Parents

But a mandated school shutdown meant that we would lose that in-person instruction.

So what could we possibly do to maintain that same high level of engagement?

    It turns out plenty.

Bridgedale's Transition to Online Distance Learning

By Tanya Stanish, Bridgedale Academy Mom

"They are fully engaged, as if still in school!"

I appreciate how Bridgedale has implemented virtual learning in a way that best mimics an actual classroom setting. The teachers are doing the teaching, the boys are interacting online and the school work is progressing.

For us parents who are now working from home, we do not feel the pressure of having to homeschool our children or worry about idle time.

They are fully engaged, as if still in school. I am so grateful for the way the Bridgedale teachers have pulled this together!

A highly experienced negotiator and formidable litigator, Tanya represents a wide variety of clients, from prominent executives, entrepreneurs, medical and legal professionals to professional athletes, spouses with trusts and stay-at-home spouses. Outside the courtroom, she has considerable proficiency with prenuptial and postnuptial agreements for wealthy individuals.

Tanya's son Jake is a 7th grader at Bridgedale Academy. Jake is a goaltender who played during the 2019-20 hockey season with the Stallions organization. He was selected to play with the AAA Chicago Mission organization for this spring, pending the COVID-19 shutdown.

At Bridgedale we are committed to the development of our young student-athletes. In this time of challenge and uncertainty due to COVID-19, we seamlessly moved our academics and off-ice athletic instruction online. We continue to help our student-athletes develop their physical and mental skills so they can perform at their best when it matters most, no matter the arena of life that challenges them.
